Education and training
As a professional body, the ITC-SA is committed to supporting the professional development and advancement of its members and the engineered timber roofing industry in general.
The Institute works to ensure close liaison with the education sector and training authorities in the development of unit standards for the manufacture of nail plated timber roof trusses, for the erection of timber roof trusses and to facilitate training in these disciplines, in compliance with the Skills Development Act.
The ITC-SA is involved in the following:
- development and publishing of training material and handbooks for ITC-SA members and industry users
- negotiating training opportunities with FET Colleges and other institutions to further develop the skills of members and their employees
- offering a number of in house training courses and workshops
- train roof erectors in accordance with requirements of SANS 10243 codes of practice for the erection and bracing of timber roof structures
- arrange awareness seminars on erection and bracing procedures to educate engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, clerks of works, building inspectors, builders and carpenters
professional recognition
The ITC-SA works closely with South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to ensure professional recognition for ITC-SA members and develops the criteria to enable professional registration.
We liaise on behalf of members to ensure compliance with all registration requirements and contribute to the development of further training and development criteria for professional membership.
