The South African Forestry Company Limited (SAFCOL), a South African government-owned company primarily involved in the forestry sector with the mandate to conduct forestry business including timber harvesting, processing and related activities, will be hosting its Forestry Industrialisation Conference 2017 (FIC 2017) in partnership with the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The event is to take place in Kempton Park from 4-5 October 2017.

With the aim to raise public awareness of the industry to the possibilities within the timber industry and stimulate discussion around the role the industry can play in tackling economic development challenges in South Africa, SAFCOL’s FIC 2017 is an answer to the call for discourse on promoting a society awake to the value of timber and timber products. The results of such a reality have real and positive implications for job creation and industrialisation of the forestry sector.

The purpose of the conference is to bring forestry-related decision-makers and players together from both the public and private sectors to assess the current status of the industry, opportunities to be exploited, alignment to international developments and to create exposure for the industry to the broader South African market.

The conference seeks to foster conversations and knowledge-sharing on the opportunities available along the wood value chain and to explore value-adding projects and ventures in this field for various stakeholders.
