The Institute for Timber Construction South Africa (ITC-SA), a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) accredited Professional Body, is pleased to announce the appointment of Erik Söderlund as General Manager.
Mr Söderlund comes with an educational background in Wood Science, Accounting, and Economics, and has been in the service of wood and timber processing sector since 1994. As such, he has direct and in-depth experience in the manufacture of timber and other wood related products for use in the construction industry that meets the NBR’s and relevant South African National Standards, such as sawn timber, laminated beams, plywood, blockboard, hardboard, solid and hollow-core doors, timber moldings, timber treatment, and treated poles.
As a senior operational manager for over 12 years, Erik has contributed greatly to the industry at large by serving on various industry boards as follows:
- Sawmilling South Africa (Non-Executive Director)
- Executive Committee of Forestry South Africa (General Committee Member)
- Board of Control for the Institute of Commercial Forestry Research (Board Member)
- Umbrella Fire Protection Association of KZN (Executive Board Member, Chairperson)
As an individual with extensive technical knowledge, business management expertise, an in-depth knowledge of the timber industry, as well as a clear penchant for contribution to the sector, the ITC-SA Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Mr Söderlund on board as General Manager and wishes him all of the best at the Institute’s helm.
Mr Söderlund steps into a role previously held by Mrs Amanda Stears (prev. Obbes), whose tenure at the ITC-SA has spanned over 20 years. Mrs Stears will be pursuing a new entrepreneurial venture as she ends her time with the ITC-SA in February of 2021. The Board extends their immense gratitude to her for her dedicated service and wishes her every success in her new venture.
